Event Wrap Up

The 15th edition of the Coastal Classic was held over the weekend in absolutely stunning conditions! Spectacular coastal views, wildflowers, sunshine and whales were all on offer for runners as they made their way from Otford to Bundeena through the Royal National Park.

The 30km course is deceptively tough for runners who underestimate the sand and sunshine. But the atmosphere is incredible, and support is never far away – the local Bushies were out as always supporting the event with their infamous singing, heckling and cheering all along the course.

A record field of runners were on the start line, and race times didn’t disappoint. First across the line in 2:18:27 was Samuel McNaughton who led from early on, hot on his heels were Josh Bignell and Jonathan Mclennan both finishing in under 2:20. In the Womens field Sarah Brewster charged home in 2:34:49 with Tippi Wieland and Emma Watkins rounding out the podium. Full results are available online.

For Triple Trail Challenge runners who locked in their race calendar early and made it to the finish line for Raffertys, Jabulani and Coastal Classic, what an achievement! Enjoy your limited edition hoodie as a reward for running with us all year. For runners looking to enter all three events in 2025 and score a hoodie, entries for the Triple Trail Challenge will open later in the year and are limited to 100 entries.

A welcome back and big congratulations to our Coastal Classic Conquerors. These runners have completed 10 or more Coastal Classics since Max Adventure took on the event in 2010. Joining this list in 2025 were Nigel Took and Chris Dawe, with many other conquerors returning once again – including our two legends Warwick and Geoff who have run every Coastal Classic!

On a day like Saturday every participant was a winner, and tales of whales breaching out to sea, super PBs and sweaty hugs with Elvis are all part of what makes this event so special. Relaxing on the grass at Bundeena Reserve enjoying a a cold NORT Beer and a feed from the RFS BBQ or the local club, runners shared their stories, photos and started making plans to return in 2025.

Thanks as always to the ever amazing Billy’s Bushies, our event sponsors Tailwind and Tarkine and the local communities of Otford and Bundeena who host the start and the finish respectively.

The team from Outer Image were out on course capturing all the action from the day. Head over to their website to check them out.

Mark Saturday 6th September 2025 in your calendar and set an alarm for Monday 7th of April when entries will open for the 16th Coastal Classic. See you next year!
